We know the back label says “for more information visit www.flotsamandjetsam.co.za”. That was a cruel joke. There is no information.

Just kidding. Here is a little more information (but no more that you need):

Flotsam & Jetsam wines are made in a simple way from fantastic vineyards. No fuss. Sometimes wine just needs to be wine. Stop naming fruits. Say “loganberry” and this wine will literally slap you. That’s how we made it.

For normal levels of enjoyment, pour it in your glass and drink it. To ramp it up, pour it on your friends, pets and house plants.

Cinsault 2016:

This wine is made from dry farmed bushvine parcels with an average age of around 240 years divided by 6. We tend to pick Cinsault relatively early. Up until now we’ve always used 100% whole cluster fermentation, with very gentle extraction work, if any. This philosophy accounts for the wines being quite “light and bright”. Over-ripe and over-extracted Cinsault can be lead-footed and syrupy. Maturation in neutral oak and in tank. Future vintages will be matured in cement tanks.

Tasting notes by Butch:

  • Colour: red
  • Nose: nice
  • Palate: very nice

Chenin 2016:

Making a white partner for the Cinsault was easy. During the last few years, we’ve spent much time and effort searching for interesting old Chenin vineyards for our Alheit Vineyards wines. As a result I have a library of vineyards in my head, which for various reasons didn’t quite make it into any of the Alheit Vineyards wines.

Finding the right parcels for this wine was not exactly a challenge. We hope that it over-delivers.

Tasting notes by Butch:

  • Colour: white
  • Nose: yep
  • Palate: tasty

Here are some of the awards that we’ve awarded our Flotsam & Jetsam wines, so suck it:
